Summary of Al-Fatihah

By MuslimsforAllah.net

In simple English, Surat Al-Fatihah, the opening chapter of The Quran, can be translated as follows:

  1. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
  2. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds
  3. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
  4. Master of the Day of Judgment
  5. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help
  6. Guide us to the straight path
  7. The path of those whom You have favoured, not of those who earn Your anger, nor of those who go astray

This sura is a statement of faith and a prayer for guidance. It begins with the bismillah (in the name of Allah) and praises Allah, the Lord of the worlds. It then asks for guidance and salvation and affirms that Muslims seek guidance and help only from Allah. The final verse mentions the two paths that people can choose in life: the path of those who are favoured by Allah and the path of those who earn His anger and go astray.
